La Bastide MARIN is an exceptional place where nature, art and culture come together.

Located in La Ciotat in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region,

It is the Interpretation Centre for "Mediterranean Heritage".

This concept is inspired by the history of this place connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the land of Provence.

Here, the nourishing Sea (Mare Nostrum) and Mother Earth are glorified and unite their efforts for the benefit of all living things—human, animal, and plant. The alliance of Earth and Sea is a maternal heritage.

Glorious long-distance navigators lived here for several centuries.

They braved storms, pirates, and epidemics.

Their country house was hospitable, plasterwork decorations adorn the interiors including statues of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Roch, crosses, fleurs-de-lis and monumental fireplaces currently being restored.

Welcome

A place to live

With its Mediterranean heritage gardens, the Bastide Marin is a place where biodiversity is preserved and encouraged.

The Heritage Foundation supports its restoration through a national fundraising campaign, and a sponsorship club supports its activities.

The gardens are cultivated in various cultural and historical spaces; visitors can explore them:

- an educational vineyard,

- an olive grove,

- a threshing area surrounded by local and utilitarian crops,

- a wheat field,

- an ethnobotanical garden - a garden of flavors,

- a magical garden invites you on an inner journey, 150

medicinal plants are reminiscent of traditions

ancient plants and "witches'" uses

- A medieval-inspired garden "Hortus du

"Mediterranean Heritage" is cultivated as a demonstration of permaculture techniques.

Plants and animals live in symbiosis; the Bastide apiary benefits from nectar-bearing plants and produces honey twice a year. The educational farm completes this living panorama, much to the delight of young and old alike.

The realm of insects and birds exists, often invisible but audible and perceptible to those who know how to observe and respect.

Shared construction projects

The restoration of the Bastide MARIN, its agricultural outbuildings, the creation and maintenance of its remarkable gardens, and the life of the educational farm are on the program of shared projects offered to all volunteers.

A place of history

Secrets and mysteries of times past

A summer holiday destination, a place of refuge during maritime attacks and a place of healing, the Bastide Marin reveals many secrets.

Venerable trees inhabit the gardens, the spring in its well is clear and pure, the land has nourished bourgeois and common people for centuries.

La Bastide Marin and its natural setting offer architectural, historical, botanical, and landscape value, with the aim of transmitting natural, built, and human heritage. This heritage is meant to be "appropriated" and not "sacrosanct".

The property consists of a Manor House, a farm, a courtyard with a well and a natural setting with several secret and harmonious gardens.
